Beyond the Hype 2008: Web 2.0

Symposium to be held in Brisbane Australia 1-2 February 2008.

There's a new web browser out ... Flock ... kinda juicing up the plugins of Firefox to create a web browser which incorporates social network tools ...

Here's a review I wrote earlier - any comments?

I’ve got so much to do so I’ve got into some fairly hardcore procrastination & am playing with a new web browser: Flock - The Social Web Browser

I think the idea is that it incorporates all that me, me, me Web 2.0 joy into yr browser experience with an opening page filled with feeds, favourites, media etc. It’s like a really souped up, plugin heavy version of fabulous Firefox.

It’s actually frustrating me, it still seems clunky & doesn’t do much more than igoogle - which conveniently gives me a desktop of my own wherever I am. I’m not seeing the facebook/meebo/IM/twitter/email/calendar mashups happening & maybe I’m too dumb but then isn’t that the point … isn’t Flock for the dummies who want all the feel-good community extras on their browser.

Thus far it’s feeling too hard & I’m finding a web experience dominated by the generic ads & web sites populated by Flock. That which I really like about Flock - is straight from Firefox.

I’m writing this with the insert blog menu option; which could be rather funky.
