WELCOME TO BEYOND THE HYPE: WEB 2.0

Please note: This site was developed for the purpose of using and becoming familiar with Web 2.0 tools and to share information etc, before, during and after the above symposium. The Symposium has now been over for nearly a year and activity on the site is almost non-existent. The site is staying active as an archive for those who are interested in Web 2.0 and the information profession but no other activity is planned. Any new information posted on the site now requires permission. Inappropriate information will be deleted and the member banned.

The AustralianLibrary and Information Association is proud to present Beyond the Hype 2008: Web 2.0. Web 2.0, and Library 2.0, are terms generating a high level of interest in the library and other fields. The Beyond the Hype 2008: Web 2.0 will introduce, discuss and debate issues about Web 2.0, its impact, its usefulness, discussing whether it's of benefit to your library, and possible ways of incorporating it in to libraries.

The aim of the symposium is to look beyond the hype of Web 2.0 and provide interesting and practical information so people can make up their own minds. This social network has been created as a forum for you, the members and interested parties, to come and play with the technology and other interesting bits that we/you find. The site has links to Web technologies, ways to practice using some of the more common ones, cool and interesting things to help, and some fun stuff. It's all up to you!

Kiama Library: Behind the firewall

Kiama has been using a blog for
internal communications for the last three years.

The blog has been a great success with staff using it as the major communications tool. It has been a great innovation for maintaining communications with our casual staff as it keeps them involved and “in the loop” for anything that might be
used in the library. None uses email internally anymore as the blog
has replaced email's use.
